يَسعىhastens إِلَيَّtoward me مُقَرطَقٌone clad in a short tunic فيin كَفِّهِhis hand
يَسعى إِلَيَّ مُقَرطَقٌ في كَفِّهِ
كَأسٌa wine cup وَبَينَand between جُفونِهِhis eyelids كَأسانِtwo wine cups
كَأسٌ وَبَينَ جُفونِهِ كَأسانِ
Toward him hastens one clad in a short tunic, in his palm
One clad in a short tunic hastens toward me; in his hand
a cup—and between his eyelids, two cups.

وَتَناسَبَتand were alike فيهِin him بِغَيرِwithout قَرابَةٍkinship
وَتَناسَبَت فيهِ بِغَيرِ قَرابَةٍ
كَفَّthe hand of المُديرِthe cupbearer وَوَجنَةَand the cheek of النُدمانِthe drinking companions
كَفَّ المُديرِ وَوَجنَةَ النُدمانِ
And in him, though they share no kinship, are matched
And in him, without kinship, were alike
the pourer’s palm and the boon companion’s cheek.
