وَكَفَّ عَنّا بَأسَ بَأسائِهِ
Time came early to greet us with its good fortune,
Time came to us early with its joys,
and held back from us the force of its adversity.
And spared us the harshness of its afflictions.

September came to us rejoicing,
And September came to us rejoicing,
praising Time for its blessings.
Praising Time for its bounties.

Do you not see the delicacy in its air

Matching the delicacy in its water?

Look upon its many kinds of fruit,
Look at the varieties of its fruits,
gathered within the coolness of its bosom.
Which it has gathered in the coolness of its bosom.

The breezes of the east wind passed over them,

Nipping them in the chill of its courtyards.

Do you not see the beauty of its Mullāḥī grapes,

Offered to the loveliness of its Shaʿrāʾ peaches?

Look at its pomegranate, laughing—
Look at its pomegranates, smiling—
its red gleaming against its white.
Its red against the face of its white.
