There the saddles of weary, hollow-eyed camels were set down;
And set down there the saddles of weary, sunken-eyed camels,
too much swift pacing had diminished their pace.
whose trot is slowed by excessive trotting.

We hold back a tear whose hobble parting has loosed,
Let us drain away a tear whose tether parting has loosened,
and whose resting place estrangement from the beloved has disturbed.
and whose noonday resting place separation from the beloved has disturbed.

No wonder, then, that the tears of one enslaved by love overflow
So it is no wonder that the tears of one enslaved by love overflowed
upon the dwelling— their gentle shower watering its ruins.
upon the dwelling, their dew watering its ruins.
