ياO عَلَيماًlearned one فيin اِدعاءٍclaiming
يا عَلَيماً في اِدعاءٍ
وَجَهولاًand ignorant فيin اِمتِحانِa test
وَجَهولاً في اِمتِحانِ
O you, learned in your claims,
O knowledgeable in supplication
and ignorant when put to the test,
Yet ignorant in examination
وَفَقيراًand poor وَهُوَthough he is مُثرٍwealthy
وَفَقيراً وَهُوَ مُثرٍ
وَبَعيداًand distant وَهوَthough he is دانِnear
وَبَعيداً وَهوَ دانِ
and poor though wealthy,
Poor yet prosperous
and distant though near,
Far yet near
وَوَضيعاًand lowly فيin فُؤادٍa heart
وَوَضيعاً في فُؤادٍ
وَرَفيعاًand lofty فيin عَيانِplain sight
وَرَفيعاً في عَيانِ
and lowly in the heart,
Insignificant yet grand
and lofty in plain sight—
You are like the crucified elevated
أَنتَyou كَالمَصلوبِlike the crucified man يَعلوhe rises high
أَنتَ كَالمَصلوبِ يَعلو
وَهوَwhile he is مُنَحَطُّlow المَكانِthe station
وَهوَ مُنَحَطُّ المَكانِ
you are like a crucified man, rising high

while low in station.
