لاdo not تَجبُنَنَّever be cowardly فَكَمfor many a جَبانٍcoward مُحجِمٍshrinking back
قَدindeed ماتَdied مَوتَthe death of الباسِلِthe valiant man المُتَوَثِّبِspringing forward
Never be cowardly, for many a shrinking coward
Do not be cowardly, for how many cowards recoiled
Has died the death of the valiant man who springs forward.
Only to die the death of the daring assailant
وَلِيَمنَحَand let him offer الأَعداءَthe enemies صَلباًa staunch man صُلَّباunyielding
وَلِيَسمُand let him aspire لِلجُلّىto great things بِقَلبٍwith a heart قُلَّبِresourceful
Let him offer his enemies a staunch, unyielding opponent;
And to grant the enemy an unflinching will
And let him aspire to great things with a resourceful heart.
And to charge ahead with a devoted heart
وَلِيَغدُand let him set out in the morning فيin تَعَبٍtoil يَرُحhe will return in the evening فيin راحَةٍease
إِنَّindeed الأُمورَaffairs مُريحُهاwhat brings ease in them فيin المُتعِبِwhat brings toil
Let him set out in toil in the morning and return at ease in the evening;
And to find rest in toil and comfort in ordeal
For in all affairs, what brings ease lies in what brings toil.
For the relief of matters lies with the toiler
