وَإِلىand at دُموعِtears المُزنِof the rainclouds كَيفَhow تَذَرَّفُthey stream
Look at the desert, how it has adorned itself,
Look how the desert is adorned
And at the rainclouds' tears, how they stream.
And how the tears of the sad ones flow
وَعَلىand on الرُباthe hills حُلَلٌrobes وَشاهُنَّembroidered them الحَياthe rain

And on the hills are robes embroidered by the rain:
The hills are clad in robes, lizards frolic
Some arrow-patterned, some gold-embroidered, some striped.
Some rounded, some jagged, some humped
وَمَلابِسُand the garments الأَنواءِof the rains فيهاtherein سُندُسٌfine silk

وَمَضاجِعُand the resting places الأَنداءِof the dew فيهاtherein زُخرُفُornament
And there the rains' garments are fine silk,
The clouds wear silken clothes
And there the dew's resting places are ornaments.
And the valleys, embroidered beds

The winds whispered tales about the gardens—
Let the winds gently blow on the gardens
Tales that reminded you of camphor when dissolved.
Reminding you of camphor as it wafts
وَعَلىand on التِلاعِthe slopes مِنَof الأَقاحيthe daisies حِلَّةًa robe

And on the slopes, a robe of daisies,
The hillocks wear garments of wildflowers
And on the uplands, a bordered cloak of anemones.
And the plains, cloaks of poppies
وَالغَيمُand the clouds تَنفِشهُfluff it up الرِياحُthe winds عَشِيَّةًat evening

كَالقُطنِlike cotton فيamid زُرقِblue الثِيابُthe garments يُنَدَّفُis carded
And the clouds are fluffed up by the winds at evening,
The winds unravel the clouds in the evening
Like cotton carded amid blue garments.
Like cotton in the blue of clothes when shaken
وَالقَطرُand the rain يَهميpours down وَهوَwhile it is أَبيَضُwhite ناصِعُpure

And the rain pours down, pure white,
The raindrops rush white and pure
And becomes a torrent, dust-gray and dusky.
Becoming floods, dusty and murky
وَالبَرقُand the lightning يَلمَعُflashes مِثلَlike سَيفٍa sword يُنتَضىis unsheathed

وَالسَيلُand the torrent يَجريflows مِثلَlike أَفعىa snake تَزحُفُcrawls
And lightning flashes like a sword unsheathed,
Lightning flashes like an unsheathed sword
And the torrent flows like a crawling snake.
And floods run like snakes slithering

Its gap-toothed and crimson-stained forms captivate you,
Paralyzing and drenching with its waters
And its straight, crooked, and slender forms.
Deforming and twisting and fluttering
