أَلَيسَis it not صَعباًhard أَنto تَرىyou see كاشِحاًa spiteful foe
أَلَيسَ صَعباً أَن تَرى كاشِحاً
مالَكَyou have no بُدٌّalternative مِنfrom مُداراتِهِplacating him
مالَكَ بُدٌّ مِن مُداراتِهِ
Is it not hard to behold a spiteful enemy
Is it not hard to see a spiteful foe
when you have no choice but to humor him?
whom you have no choice but to placate?
أَصبَحتُI have come to be فيin دارِthe house of إِساءاتِهِhis wrongs
أَصبَحتُ في دارِ إِساءاتِهِ
أَعُدُّI count أَنفاسيmy breaths وَساعاتِهِand his hours
أَعُدُّ أَنفاسي وَساعاتِهِ
I now find myself in the house of his abuse,
I have come to be in the house of his wrongs;
counting my breaths—and his hours.
I count my breaths and his hours.
