خَوفٌ وَحيفٌ وَإِقلالٌ وَإِفلاسُ
In Baniyas, when you are made to tread its precincts,
In Baniyas, when you are made to set foot in its grounds,
In baniyas, when you tread its plain
there are fear, oppression, poverty, and ruin.
there are fear, injustice, poverty, and bankruptcy.
There is fear, injustice, scarcity and loss

How can anyone hope for safety and ease
And how can anyone hope for safety and ease
How can one aspire for safety and leisure
who settles in a town half of whose name is “yās”—an echo of despair?
who dwells in a town half of whose name is 'yās'—despair?
Who has settled in a land whose name is half ruin
