إذا خالف القولُ الفِعالَ فإنه

إذا خالف القولُ الفِعالَ فإنه

لعمري هباءٌ لا يُفيدُ ولا يجدي

لعمري هباءٌ لا يُفيدُ ولا يجدي

If speech contradicts deeds, then it is

If words conflict with deeds, then truly,

by my life, mere dust, of no use or avail.

By my life, it is but empty air, of no avail or benefit.

فلا مرحباً بالخل يُبدي ليَ الهوى

فلا مرحباً بالخل يُبدي ليَ الهوى

وأفعالهُ تُومي إلى غيرِ ما يُبدي

وأفعالهُ تُومي إلى غيرِ ما يُبدي

So no welcome to the friend who shows me love,

So no welcome to one whose words display affection,

while his deeds point to something other than what he shows.

Yet whose actions point to other than what he professes.
