سَأَستَعطِفُI shall entreat الأَيّامَthe days حَتّىuntil تَرُدَّنيthey bring me back
سَأَستَعطِفُ الأَيّامَ حَتّى تَرُدَّني
إِلىto جانِبٍa side مِنهاof them يَلينُis gentle وَيَسهُلُand is easy
إِلى جانِبٍ مِنها يَلينُ وَيَسهُلُ
I shall entreat the days until they bring me back
I will implore the days until they return me
To a side of them that is gentle and easy.
To a side of them that softens and makes easy
وَأَقنَعُand I am content لاnot أَنَّbecause القَناعَةَcontentment ليfor me غِنىًwealth
وَأَقنَعُ لا أَنَّ القَناعَةَ لي غِنىً
وَلَكِنَّbut صَونَsafeguarding العِرضِhonor بِالحُرِّfor a free man أَجمَلُmore becoming
وَلَكِنَّ صَونَ العِرضِ بِالحُرِّ أَجمَلُ
And I am content—not because contentment is wealth to me,
And I will be content not that contentment enriches me
But because safeguarding honor better befits a free man.
But that guarding honor with freedom is more beautiful
