أُفَضِّلُI prefer الوَردَthe rose عَلىto النَرجِسِthe narcissus
أُفَضِّلُ الوَردَ عَلى النَرجِسِ
لاnot أَجعَلُI regard الأَنجُمَthe stars كَالأَشمُسِlike the suns
لا أَجعَلُ الأَنجُمَ كَالأَشمُسِ
I favor the rose above the narcissus;
I prefer the rose to the narcissus.
I do not set stars on a par with suns.
I do not equate the stars with the suns.

The one who sits in my gathering
The one who sits in a gathering is not
