يَقولُhe says or sings لَناto us غَيرَother than ماwhat يُضرَبُis played
وَيُضرَبُand is played غَيرَother than الَّذيthat which نَحسُبُwe expect
He sings to us something other than what is played,
He says to us other than what is meant
And what is played is other than what we expect.
And what is meant is other than what we think
كَكيسانَlike Kaysan يَكتُبُhe writes غَيرَother than الَّذيthat which
يَقولُsays المُحَدِّثُthe narrator وَالمُكتِبُand the writing instructor
Like Kaysan, who writes something other than what
Like two pouches writing something different
The narrator and the writing instructor say.
From what the speaker says and the writer writes
فَيَكتُبُso he writes غَيرَother than الَّذيthat which قالَهُhe said it
وَيَقرَأُand he reads غَيرَother than الَّذيthat which يُكتَبُis written
So he writes something other than what he said,
So he writes not what was said
And reads something other than what is written.
And reads not what was written
فَصَمتاًso be silent إِذاif شِئتَyou wish إِطرابَناdelighting us
فَنَحنُfor we إِذاwhen قُلتَyou say or sing لاnot نَطرَبُfeel delight
So be silent if you wish to delight us,
So if you want to confuse us, be silent
For when you sing, we feel no delight.
For if told "no" we won't be confused
وَلاand do not تَأتِيَنّيever come to me إِذاwhen جِئتَنيyou come to me
فَإِنّيfor I إِذاwhen جِئتَنيyou come to me أَذهُبُleave
And never come to me when you come to me,
And don't come to me when coming
For when you come to me, I leave.
For when you come to me I'll go
