ثَوىdwelt فيin حُفرَةِthe pit of العاناتِal-ʿĀnāt يُمنٌa blessing
ثَوى في حُفرَةِ العاناتِ يُمنٌ
تَغَلغَلَspread deeply فيinto المَنازِلِthe homes وَالرِباعِand the homesteads
تَغَلغَلَ في المَنازِلِ وَالرِباعِ
Good fortune has come to dwell in Ḥafrat al-ʿĀnāt,
A blessing dwelt in the pit of al-ʿĀnāt,
spreading deep through its homes and quarters.
Spreading deep into homes and homesteads.
وَإِنand if تَهوَyou love البِقاعَthe lands فَلَيسَthen it is not غَرواًa wonder
وَإِن تَهوَ البِقاعَ فَلَيسَ غَرواً
هَوىlove for أَهلِthe people of البِقاعِthe lands هَوىlove for البِقاعِthe lands
هَوى أَهلِ البِقاعِ هَوى البِقاعِ
Though such places be humble, it is no wonder:
And if you love those lands, it is no wonder:
to love a region’s people is to love the region.
Love for the people of those lands is love for those lands.
