لِكُلِّfor every مُلِمَّةٍcalamity فَرَجٌrelief قَريبُnear
لِكُلِّ مُلِمَّةٍ فَرَجٌ قَريبُ
كَمِثلِjust like اللَيلِthe night يَتلوهُfollows it الصَباحُthe morning
كَمِثلِ اللَيلِ يَتلوهُ الصَباحُ
For every affliction, relief is near—
For every calamity, relief is near,
just as morning follows night.
just as night is followed by morning.
وَإِنَّand indeed لِكُلِّfor every صالِحَةٍsound thing فَساداًdecay
وَإِنَّ لِكُلِّ صالِحَةٍ فَساداً
كَذاكَlikewise لِكُلِّfor every فاسِدَةٍspoiled thing صَلاحُrestoration
كَذاكَ لِكُلِّ فاسِدَةٍ صَلاحُ
And every wholesome thing is subject to decay;
And indeed, every sound thing has its decay;
likewise, every corrupted thing may be restored.
likewise, every spoiled thing has its restoration.
وَلِلأَيّامِand the days have أَيدٍhands باسِطاتٌoutstretched
وَلِلأَيّامِ أَيدٍ باسِطاتٌ
وَأَفنِيَةٌand courtyards مُوَسَّعَةٌmade wide فِساحُspacious
وَأَفنِيَةٌ مُوَسَّعَةٌ فِساحُ
The days have hands that reach forth,
And the days have outstretched hands,
and spacious courtyards, broad and open.
and courtyards made wide and spacious.
وَقَدand may تَأتيthey come وَأَوجُهِهاand their faces صِباحُbeautiful
وَقَد تَأتي وَأَوجُهِها صِباحُ
كَماjust as تَأتيthey come وَأَوجُهِهاand their faces قِباحُugly
كَما تَأتي وَأَوجُهِها قِباحُ
They may arrive with faces radiant,
And they may come with beautiful faces,
just as they arrive with faces grim.
just as they come with ugly faces.
وَلِلحالاتِand circumstances have ضيقٌconstriction وَاِتِّساعٌand expansion
وَلِلحالاتِ ضيقٌ وَاِتِّساعٌ
وَلِلدُنياand the world has اِنغِلاقٌclosing وَاِنفِتاحُand opening
وَلِلدُنيا اِنغِلاقٌ وَاِنفِتاحُ
Every circumstance has its straitness and its ease,
And circumstances have constriction and expansion,
and this world its closing and opening.
and the world has closing and opening.
فَلاso do not تَجزَعdespair لَهاover it وَاِصبِرand be patient عَلَيهاwith it
فَلا تَجزَع لَها وَاِصبِر عَلَيها
فَإِنَّfor indeed الصَبرَpatience عُقباهُits outcome النَجاحُsuccess
فَإِنَّ الصَبرَ عُقباهُ النَجاحُ
So do not despair at it; endure it patiently,
So do not despair over it, and bear it patiently,
for patience ends in success.
for patience's outcome is success.
وَكُلُّand all الحادِثاتِcalamities إِذاwhen تَناهَتreach their limit
وَكُلُّ الحادِثاتِ إِذا تَناهَت
فَمَقرونٌthen joined بِهاto them الفَرَجُrelief المُتاحُavailable
فَمَقرونٌ بِها الفَرَجُ المُتاحُ
And whenever misfortunes reach their utmost limit,
And all calamities, when they reach their limit,
available relief comes coupled with them.
are accompanied by relief at hand.
