مَدَحتَyou praised وَلَمand did not تَصدُقyou speak truthfully وَلَمand did not تَكُyou were مُذنِباًat fault
مَدَحتَ وَلَم تَصدُق وَلَم تَكُ مُذنِباً
وَلَكِنَّand yet دَهراًtime لَمdid not يُساعِدكَit favors you مُذنِبُat fault
وَلَكِنَّ دَهراً لَم يُساعِدكَ مُذنِبُ
You praised and did not speak the truth, yet you were not at fault.
But time, which did not favor you, is to blame.
وَماand not الجَهلُfolly إِلّاexcept أَنthat تَقَرَّظَyou praise مَعشَراًa group of people
وَما الجَهلُ إِلّا أَن تَقَرَّظَ مَعشَراً
خَلائِقُهُمtheir natures يَشهَدنَthey bear witness أَنَّكَthat you تَكذِبُyou lie
خَلائِقُهُم يَشهَدنَ أَنَّكَ تَكذِبُ
And folly is nothing but praising a group of people
Whose natures bear witness that you are lying.
