A noble one has been added to the ranks of the noble,

Pure, true-born, a new member among the noble.

Lofty in station, he seems ever to be

Glory’s peer and al-Simāk’s boon companion.

So may his affairs find fulfillment, whatever the turns

Of his circumstances, and may his standing be exalted.

So rejoice: on the day you were granted him, there came to you

Good fortune that guarantees everlasting joy.

A branch whose lifetime has pledged to nurture its growth,

Till time comes round and he is a rootstock.

Indeed, the crescent becomes a perfect full moon,

And shatters night’s barrier while night is pitch-black.

And he is eminent when his face appears,

And tomorrow, when great trouble descends, he will be great.

A face like the flowering of gardens, and beneath it

A nature that spells ruin for the envied among the winds.

So his family’s honor is firmly established through him,

And theirs is honor, lofty and all-embracing.

So let your eye rejoice in him, for his qualities

Are pure and gentle—or one might call him a breeze.

And his edge cuts clean through when

His peers catch up with one another; his course takes the lead.
