    وَالرَوضُ بَينَ مُجَدَّدٍ وَمُدَبَّجِ

    The clouds are part musk-dark, part camphor-white;

    And the garden, part striped, part brocaded.

    وَإِذا رَشَفتَ فَمِن شَتيتٍ أَفلَجِ

    So when you drink, it is pure, smooth-flowing wine;

    And when you sip, from a mouth with well-spaced front teeth—

    From the saliva of one slender as a green bough,

    Or the hand of a bright-browed one, like the radiant morning.

    Then, when he reveals to you a bright brow framed by a forelock,

    A white gleam amid blackness carries your heart away.

    So behold musk-darkness embracing camphor-whiteness:

    The beauty of a gap-toothed mouth and a rosy cheek reveals it.

    And when his cheek and his sideburn embrace,

    Then behold the embrace of carnelians and violets.
