Do not lose heart—for many a coward who shrank from action
Do not be cowardly—for many a coward who hangs back
has died the death of the valiant warrior springing to attack.
Has died the death of the valiant man who springs forward.
وَلِيَمنَحَand let him offer الأَعداءَthe enemies صَلباًa backbone صُلَّباextremely firm
وَلِيَسمُand let him rise لِلجُلّىto the greatest challenge بِقَلبٍwith a heart قُلَّبِresourceful
Let him show his enemies a backbone tempered hard,
And let him present the enemies with a firm, unyielding backbone.
and rise to the gravest trial with a seasoned, resourceful heart.
And let him rise to the greatest challenge with a resourceful heart.
وَلِيَغدُand let him set out in the morning فيin تَعَبٍtoil يَرُحhe will return in the evening فيin راحَةٍease
إِنَّindeed الأُمورَthe affairs مُريحُهاwhat brings them ease فيin المُتعِبِwhat brings toil
Let him set out through toil, that he may return to rest;
And let him set out in toil in the morning; he will return in ease in the evening.
for what brings ease in all affairs is found in what wearies.
Indeed, in affairs, what brings ease lies in what brings toil.
