1. وَشَبابٌ خَفَّ نازِلُهُ

    لَيتَهُ عادَ كَما كانا

    And youth—its guest has hastened away;

    would that it returned as it once was!

  2. وَمَشيبُ آبِ نازِحُهُ

    لَيتَهُ إِذ كانَ ما بانا

    And gray hair—its absent one has returned;

    would that, when it came to be, it had not shown itself!

  3. خانَني دَهرٌ وَثِقتُ بِهِ

    رُبَّ مَوثوقٍ بِهِ خانا

    Time, which I trusted, has betrayed me;

    many a trusted one has betrayed.
