إِنّيindeed I أَرىsee لَكَfor you فيin السَماحَةِgenerosity وَالنَدىand bounty
إِنّي أَرى لَكَ في السَماحَةِ وَالنَدى
طَلَقاًa course ذَرَيتَyou outstripped بِهِwith it عَلىin الإِطلاقِabsolute terms
طَلَقاً ذَرَيتَ بِهِ عَلى الإِطلاقِ
Indeed, I see that in generosity and bounty you have
A course with which you have utterly outstripped
طَلَقَthe course of الغَمامَthe raincloud سَرىtraveled by night بِوَجهٍwith a face باسِرِfrowning
طَلَقَ الغَمامَ سَرى بِوَجهٍ باسِرِ
يَرويdrenches الوُجوهَthe faces وَمَبسِمٍand a smiling mouth بَرّاقِflashing
يَروي الوُجوهَ وَمَبسِمٍ بَرّاقِ
The raincloud's course: it traveled by night with a frowning face,
Drenching faces, and with a flashing smile.
ثَقُلَتgrew heavy عَلىupon عُنقِthe neck of الصِباthe east wind أَعباؤُهُits burdens
ثَقُلَت عَلى عُنقِ الصِبا أَعباؤُهُ
مِثلَlike الضَعيفِa weak person يَنوءُstaggers بِالأَوساقِbeneath loads
مِثلَ الضَعيفِ يَنوءُ بِالأَوساقِ
Its burdens grew heavy on the east wind's neck,
Like a weak man staggering beneath loads.
فَتَرىso you see النَباتَthe plants يَروقُdelights the eye وَسطَamid رِياضِهِits gardens
فَتَرى النَباتَ يَروقُ وَسطَ رِياضِهِ
مِثلَlike الحِلِيِّjewelry تَروقُdelights the eye وَسطَwithin حِقاقِjewel boxes
مِثلَ الحِلِيِّ تَروقُ وَسطَ حِقاقِ
So you see the plants delighting the eye amid its gardens,
Like jewelry delighting the eye within jewel boxes.
وَطَهارَةُand purity الأَخلاقِof character لَمhave not تَظفَرyou attained بِهاit
وَطَهارَةُ الأَخلاقِ لَم تَظفَر بِها
إِلّاexcept بِحَيثُwhere طَهارُهُhis purity الأَعراقِancestry
إِلّا بِحَيثُ طَهارُهُ الأَعراقِ
And purity of character you have not found
Except where his ancestry is pure.
كَخَلائِقِlike the qualities of الأُستاذِthe master إِنif جاوَزتُهاI go beyond them
كَخَلائِقِ الأُستاذِ إِن جاوَزتُها
تَجِدُyou find الخَلائِقَthe qualities غَيرَnot ذاتِpossessing خِلاقِa share of goodness
تَجِدُ الخَلائِقَ غَيرَ ذاتِ خِلاقِ
Like the master's qualities: if I go beyond them,
You find other qualities devoid of merit.
