أخوcompanion of الإعدامِdestitution لاneither حيٌّa living man يُرَجَّىin whom hope is placed
أخو الإعدامِ لا حيٌّ يُرَجَّى
ولاnor ميتٌa dead man يُريحُgives others rest ويستريحُand rests himself
ولا ميتٌ يُريحُ ويستريحُ
Poverty’s companion is neither a living man in whom to place hope,
nor a dead man who gives others rest and rests himself.
أرىI see الخيراتِgood things فيin الدنياthis world كثيراًin abundance
أرى الخيراتِ في الدنيا كثيراً
ومنهاand of them فيin يدthe hand of الفُقراءِthe poor ريحُwind
ومنها في يد الفُقراءِ ريحُ
I see good things in abundance in this world,
yet what the poor hold of them is wind.
