قَدindeed كُنتَyou used to تولينِيَbestow on me الحُسنىkindness وَتُكرِمُنيand honor me
وَكُنتُand I used to أَشكُرُgive thanks for ماwhat تَأتيyou do مِنَof الحَسَنِgoodness
You used to bestow kindness on me and honor me,
and I would give thanks for the good you did.
فَماso what بَداoccurred لَكَto you فيregarding جودٍgenerosity وَمَكرُمَةٍand noble kindness تَجريflows
عَلىthrough المَجدِglory مَجرىlike the flow of الروحِthe soul فيin البَدَنِthe body
So what has changed your mind about generosity and noble kindness, which flow
through glory as the soul flows through the body?

Return to the way you were before, for we have
gratitude that will be among its richest recompenses,
وَحُسنُand the beauty of أُحدوثَةٍrenown لَوif كُنتَyou were تُبصِرُهاto behold it

and fair renown which, if you could behold it,
you would deem a white blaze upon the forehead of time,

more fragrant than musk on a beautiful woman's temples,
as though she were a moon poised above a bough.
