أَديراpass around, you two عَلَيَّto me الكَأسَthe cup وَاللَيلُand the night راحِلُdeparting
أَديرا عَلَيَّ الكَأسَ وَاللَيلُ راحِلُ
وَفيand in إِثرِهِits wake لِلصُبحِbelonging to dawn بَلقٌpiebald steeds شَوائِلُwith tails raised
وَفي إِثرِهِ لِلصُبحِ بَلقٌ شَوائِلُ
Pass me the cup, you two, as night departs;

And in its wake are dawn’s piebald steeds, their tails raised.
تَرَفَّعَlifted عَنهُfrom it مَنكَبُthe shoulder of اللَيلِthe night فَاِنجَلىand so it was revealed
تَرَفَّعَ عَنهُ مَنكَبُ اللَيلِ فَاِنجَلى
كَماjust as اِبتَسَمَتshe smiled لَمياءُa dark-lipped woman وَالسِترُand the curtain مائِلُdrawn aside
كَما اِبتَسَمَت لَمياءُ وَالسِترُ مائِلُ
Night’s shoulder lifted away from it, and it emerged unveiled,
Night’s shoulder lifted from it, and it stood revealed,
as when a dark-lipped beauty smiled, her mouth gently tilted.
As a dark-lipped woman smiled with the curtain drawn aside.
