And red anemones—spring had embroidered their robes—
And anemones—spring patterned their robes,
came forth, some wreathed and some dyed crimson;
So they emerged, kohl-lined and crimson-dyed,
كَالخَدِّlike a cheek يَصبُغُهُstains it الحَياءُbashfulness بِحُمرَةٍwith redness

like a cheek that modesty suffuses with a blush,
Like a cheek that bashfulness stains red,
over which tears ran, mingling with antimony kohl.
And tears flowed over it, mingled with antimony kohl.
