لِ(completes 'sand') وُقوفَthe stance of الحُبشانِthe Abyssinians فيin التيجانِcrowns
And palms stood at a bend in the sand,
Palms stood wearing the coat of ashes
As Abyssinians stand wearing crowns.
As if the Abyssinians were standing in crowns

They drank through their bases until fully slaked,
They drank with the stems until they were saturated
And appeared in the All-Merciful's adornment.
And they were adorned with the grace of the Merciful

Palm-blossoms emerged within their skulls,
The sprouts emerged in their heads
Like hands emerging from sleeves.
Like palms sticking out from flower pots

لَ(completes 'horses') تَوافَتgathered together مُصِرَّةَholding stiff الآذانِthe ears
So you see them as though they were dark bay horses,
So you see them as if they were silent with awe
Gathered together, their ears held stiff.
Not meeting the insistence of the ears

Is it palm-blossom, or chains of ivory,
Are those the sprouts or chains of ivory
Borne in ships of pure gold?
Carried on the ships of the revered ones?

بِأَعاليat the tops of شِبائِهٍsimilar ones أَقرانِpeers
Then they became alike, vying in beauty
Then they returned as youths boasting
Atop matching peers:
With the heights of similar youths as peers

Green beads of chrysolite,
Beads of emerald green
Which threads bestowed upon the twigs.
And the tanner granted them to the bows
ثُمَّthen حالَchanged النَجّارُthe natural hue وَاِختَلَفَand altered الشَكthe form (first part)

Then their hue changed, and their form altered;
Then the carpenter intervened and doubt was removed
So they gleamed with jewel-like colors,
So they shined with the essence of colors

Ranging from brilliant yellows, vying in beauty
Between yellow, incumbent, boasting
On their fruit-stalks, to deep crimson reds.
In their trellises, and red, bending
