    في الخُضرِ مِن لِباسِهِ وَالسودِ

    And night walks with a slow, deliberate gait,

    In the green and black of its robes;

    And dawn, behind it, bends its neck.

    And Suhayl trembles like one struck with fear,

    حَلَّ مَحَلَّ الرَجُلِ الطَريدِ

    And it stands apart from the stars;

    It has taken the place of an outcast man.

    And the Pleiades bear a trace of fading,

    Like a fire not supplied with fuel,

    Among stars like a herd of wild cattle in desert wastes,

    Gleaming in descent and ascent,

    Like the battlements of a lofty palace.
