وَصَلَتانٍand a strong, agile one فَلتانٍswift and darting أَنمُرِspeckled
وَصَلَتانٍ فَلتانٍ أَنمُرِ
كَأَنَّهُas though it were إِذاwhen هَوىit swooped لِلأَعفَرِtoward the tawny one
كَأَنَّهُ إِذا هَوى لِلأَعفَرِ
And a strong, swift, speckled one—
Two slender graceful does
As though, when it swoops toward the tawny one,
As if when he inclines to the yellowish
مُعَنبَرٌambergris-scented يَهويswoops إِلىtoward مُزَعفَرِone dyed with saffron
مُعَنبَرٌ يَهوي إِلى مُزَعفَرِ
بِأَبيَضٍwith a white one مِنَamong البُزاةِthe hawks أَقمَرِmoon-bright
بِأَبيَضٍ مِنَ البُزاةِ أَقمَرِ
It were ambergris-scented, swooping toward one saffron-dyed.
A speckled one inclining to the brightly-colored
With a white hawk, bright as the moon,
With a fair one of the goats, mooner
مُنَمنَمُfinely patterned الصَدرِthe breast كَصَدرِlike the opening page of الدَفتَرِthe notebook
مُنَمنَمُ الصَدرِ كَصَدرِ الدَفتَرِ
بِمِثلِwith the likeness of أَهدابِthe lashes of جُفونِthe eyelids of الأَحوَرِthe one with dark irises and bright whites
بِمِثلِ أَهدابِ جُفونِ الأَحوَرِ
Its breast finely patterned like a notebook's opening page,
With a chest beautifully marked as a notebook
With marks like lashes on a dark-eyed one's lids.
With eyelash curves like the black-eyed gazelle
