وَصَلَتانٍand a vigorous, swift one فَلتانٍunrestrained أَنمُرِspeckled
وَصَلَتانٍ فَلتانٍ أَنمُرِ
كَأَنَّهُas though it إِذاwhen هَوىswoops down لِلأَعفَرِtoward the dust-colored one
كَأَنَّهُ إِذا هَوى لِلأَعفَرِ
And a bold, unbridled one, leopard-spotted—
And a vigorous, unrestrained, speckled one,
as though, when he swoops upon the tawny quarry,
As though, when it swoops toward the dust-colored one,
مُعَنبَرٌambergris-scented يَهويswoops down إِلىtoward مُزَعفَرِsaffron-dyed
مُعَنبَرٌ يَهوي إِلى مُزَعفَرِ
بِأَبيَضٍwith a white one مِنَamong البُزاةِthe hawks أَقمَرِmoon-bright
بِأَبيَضٍ مِنَ البُزاةِ أَقمَرِ
an amber-perfumed one were swooping upon one saffron-dyed—
It were an ambergris-scented one swooping toward a saffron-dyed one.
with a white one among the hawks, moon-bright,
With a white, moon-bright hawk,
مُنَمنَمُfinely patterned الصَدرِthe breast كَصَدرِlike the opening of الدَفتَرِthe notebook
مُنَمنَمُ الصَدرِ كَصَدرِ الدَفتَرِ
بِمِثلِwith the likeness of أَهدابِeyelashes جُفونِeyelids الأَحوَرِthe dark-eyed one with bright whites
بِمِثلِ أَهدابِ جُفونِ الأَحوَرِ
his breast finely patterned like a manuscript’s frontispiece,
Its breast finely patterned, like the opening page of a notebook,
with markings like the lashes on the lids of a dark-eyed beauty.
