    Gleaming lightning embroiders the robe of night,

    and water pours from its fire, then spreads abroad.

    Its redness flared upon the skin of the earth,

    like a white blaze upon a noble steed, or piebald markings.

    No gold from it spread across its reaches

    without silver streaming down from its edges.

    It seemed, when it flashed upon the brow of the rain clouds,

    like chains of gold with no visible links.

    وَالغَيثُ مُنبَجِسٌ وَالسَيلُ مُندَفِقُ

    So thunder rumbles, and lightning flashes fleetingly;

    and rain gushes forth, and the torrent surges.

    And wild lote trees drown in its swelling waters,

    and the valley bend chokes on its rushing torrent.

    وَالرَوضُ وَشيٌ وَأَنوارُ الرُبا سَرَقُ

    The clouds are silken cloth, and the pools among the winding dunes are chain mail;

    the meadow is brocade, and the hills' blossoms are lengths of silk.

    And fresh green grass adorns the meadow,

    and brilliant white blossoms brighten the grass.
