مِن شَقوَةِ المُردِ أَن تَبدو شَوارِبُهُم

مِن شَقوَةِ المُردِ أَن تَبدو شَوارِبُهُم

مُسوَدَّةً قَبلَ أَن تَبدو عَوارِضُهُم

مُسوَدَّةً قَبلَ أَن تَبدو عَوارِضُهُم

It is a misfortune for beardless youths that their mustaches appear

black before their side-whiskers appear.

يا وَيحَهُم مِن لِحىً جَدَّت مَنافِشُهُم

يا وَيحَهُم مِن لِحىً جَدَّت مَنافِشُهُم

فيهِنَّ أَو لَعِبَت فيها مَقارِضُهُم

فيهِنَّ أَو لَعِبَت فيها مَقارِضُهُم

Alas for them, for beards their carding combs have labored

over, or their shears have played upon!
