شَرِبناwe drank وَالنُجومُwhile the stars مُغَفَّراتٌhelmeted
شَرِبنا وَالنُجومُ مُغَفَّراتٌ
تَمُرُّpass كَماjust as تَصَدَّعَتِbroke apart الزُحوفُthe advancing armies
تَمُرُّ كَما تَصَدَّعَتِ الزُحوفُ
We drank while the stars were helmeted,
We drank while the stars were forgiving
passing like armies breaking apart.
Passing like the skies had cracked
وَقَدand had أَصغَتinclined إِلىtoward الغَربِthe west الثُرَيّاthe Pleiades
وَقَد أَصغَت إِلى الغَربِ الثُرَيّا
دُنُوَّthe drawing near of الدَلوِthe bucket يَسلِمُهاlets it slip الضَعيفُthe weak man
دُنُوَّ الدَلوِ يَسلِمُها الضَعيفُ
And the Pleiades had inclined toward the west,
And the Pleiades leaned in to hear
descending like a bucket a weak man lets slip.
The faint splash of the bucket lowered gently
