مَلَأَfilled العُيونَthe eyes غَضارَةًlush freshness وَنَضارَةًand radiance
صَحوٌclear weather يُطالِعُناgreets us بِوَجهٍwith a face مونَقِlovely
The eyes were filled with freshness and radiance
It filled the eyes with freshness and delight
By clear weather greeting us with a lovely face.
A morning dawns upon us with a radiant face
وَالشَمسُand the sun واضِحَةُradiant الجَبينِof brow كَأَنَّهاas though she were
وَجهُthe face of المَليحَةِthe beautiful woman فيin الخِمارِthe veil الأَزرَقِblue
And the sun, her brow radiant, is like
And the sun with a clear brow as though it were
A beautiful woman's face within a blue veil.
The face of a beauty behind her blue veil
وَكَأَنَّهاand as though she were عِندَat اِنبِساطِthe spreading of شُعاعِهاher rays
تِبرٌunworked gold يَذوبُmelting عَلىover فُروعِthe heights of المَشرِقِthe east
And when her rays spread out, she seems
And as though when its rays spread out
Raw gold melting over the heights of the east.
It is a melting ingot on the branches of the orient
جَرَّتshe trailed إِذاwhen بَكَرَتshe rose early ذُيولَthe skirts of مُزَعفَرٍa saffron-dyed garment
وَتَجُرُّand she trails إِذwhen راحَتshe departed at evening ذُيولَthe skirts of مُمَشَّقِa red-ochre-dyed garment
At her early rising she trailed saffron-dyed skirts,
When it rose early it dragged the trains of gold-embroidered robes
And at her evening departure she trails skirts dyed with red ochre.
And when it set it dragged the trains of red brocade
فَشَرِبتُهاso I drank it عَذراءَvirgin; unmixed مِنfrom يَدِthe hand of مِثلِهاone like it
تَحكيresembles الصَباحَthe morning مَعَalongside الصَباحِthe morning المُشرِقِradiant
So I drank the virgin wine from a maiden's hand,
So I drank it in, a maiden from the hand of her like
Mirroring morning alongside the radiant morning.
Telling the tale of morning to the bright morning
فيin رَوضَةٍa garden تَلقاكَgreets you حينَwhen لَقيتَهاyou meet it
بِمُنَمنَمٍwith finely patterned growth مِنof نَبتِهاits vegetation وَمُنَمَّقِand richly adorned growth
In a garden that greets you, when you meet it,
In a garden that meets you when you met her
With intricately patterned and richly adorned growth.
With whispering from its plants and murmuring
فَاِنظُرso look إِلىat عُشبٍgrass هُناكَthere مُجَمَّعٍclustered together
وَاِنظُرand look إِلىat زَهرٍflowers هُناكَthere مُفَرَّقِscattered
So look at the grass there, gathered in clumps,
Then look at the herbs gathered there
And look at the flowers there, scattered about.
And look at the flowers scattered there
تُحبىyou are gifted بِوَردٍwith roses كَاللُجَينِlike silver مُكَفَّرٍcamphor-scented
مِنهاfrom it وَوَردٍand roses كَالعَقيقِlike carnelian مُخَلَّقِsaffron-anointed
You are gifted with silver-like, camphor-scented roses
Gifted with roses like polished silver
From it, and carnelian-like roses anointed with saffron.
And with roses like perforated carnelian
وَكَذاكَand likewise تُتحَفُyou are offered gifts مِنfrom مَنافِعِthe benefits of مائِهاits water
بِمُخَلَّقٍwith a saffron-tinted form يَعلوrising above ذُؤابَةَthe crest of أَخلَقِa smooth, bare one
And likewise, from the bounty of its water, you are offered
And so she is adorned with useful things from her waters
A saffron-tinted form rising above the crest of a smooth, bare one.
With what is perforated, higher than the most high-reaching hands
يَبدوit appears وَيَكمُنُand hides فيin الغَديرِthe pool كَأَنَّهُas though it were
جانٍa culprit يُحاوِلُtrying أَنto يَبينَshow himself وَيَتَّقيand remains wary
It appears and hides in the pool, as though it were
It appears and hides in the pond as though it were
A culprit trying to show himself, yet remaining wary.
A devil trying to show and hide itself
فَإِلىso toward السُرورِjoy لَناwe have عَنانٌa rein مَطلَقٌlet loose
إِنَّindeed الفَوائِدِthe gains فيin العَنانِthe rein المُطلَقِlet loose
So toward joy our rein is loosed;
So to joy for us the rein is loosened
Indeed, the gains lie in a loosened rein.
Truly in the loosened rein is advantage
