Rise with us; let us lodge in the finest house,

Yet, if you examine it, it is the worst of houses.

A dwelling where you cast off your faith,

When you enter it stripped of your waistcloth.

There you see no suns by day,

Yet you see moons at midday.

And on its walls are lions of battle,

Atop colts and atop Mahri camels.

They witnessed war with sham spears,

    And swords with dull edges.

And you see bodies, once they have entered it,

Clothing themselves in health, though they are naked,

Through fountains like rods of pearl,

Pouring forth together from behind the wall.
