Amid turmoil, their character and their deeds

are a bride whose beauty is complete, and brides.

Joy loosened their knee-bands in a gathering

where glory and eminence have their seats.

So when they look upon a friend, they are stars—

radiant; but if they look upon an enemy, pitch-dark nights.

Or should it be said, “The steeds clash with their like,”

then they are lions, and their enemies are prey.

So night, through them, is sunlit, and dawn, through

them, is pitch-dark, and time, through them, is verdant.
