A vinegar stew, sweet in fragrance,

As though it were agarwood on a brazier.

How lovely it is in the pot as it comes forth,

    Resembling a casket of jewels.

And the fat gleams amid its meat,

Like a white blaze on a chestnut horse.

How lovely its eggplant when it appears,

    Brown amid the red broth,

As though it were saffron-perfume water flowing,

With pieces of ambergris swirling within it.
