    وَوَجهٌ كَما لا تَشتَهيهِ مُشَنَّجُ

    A frame bent as gray-haired age has willed;

    And a face, wrinkled as you would not wish it;

    And hair that grayness burnished, till it seemed

    A radiant gift from dawn had veiled it.

    And I remember it jet-black yesterday, as though

    A radiant gift from night had cloaked it—

    تَروقُ وَتَصبي أَو تَضوعُ وَتَأرُجُ

    On nights when the nights came to you as brides,

    Delighting and captivating, or wafting fragrance and breathing perfume;

    Fair of face, lovely as gardens,

    For whom the hand of clouds sews and weaves

    Delicate robes of the breeze, fragrant,

    Their breath like musk when it is blended.
