وَالماءُ مِن نارِهِ يَهمي فَيَنعَبِقُ
A gleaming lightning bolt embroiders the robe of night,
Gleaming lightning embroiders the robe of night,
while water pours from its fire, then spreads abroad.
and water pours from its fire, spreading fragrance.

Its redness blazed upon the face of the earth,
Its redness blazed upon the earth's skin,
as though it were a blaze on a noble steed, or a piebald marking.
as though it were a white blaze on a noble steed, or piebald markings.

Whenever gold stretched from it across its expanses,
No gold from it spread across its reaches
silver streamed down from its edges.
without silver cascading down from its edges.

As it flashed upon the brow of the rainclouds, it seemed
When it flashed on the rain clouds' brow, it seemed like
like chains of pure gold whose links cannot be seen.
chains of gold whose links could not be seen.

وَالغَيثُ مُنبَجِسٌ وَالسَيلُ مُندَفِقُ
Thunder rumbles, and lightning flashes in snatches;
So thunder rumbles, and lightning flashes fleetingly;
the rain gushes forth, and the torrent surges on.
and rain gushes forth, and the torrent surges.

وَالجِزعُ فيما جَرى مِن سَيلِهِ شَرِقُ
The wild lote tree is drowned beneath its swelling waters,
And the wild lote trees are submerged in its swollen waters,
and the valley bend chokes on the flood coursing through it.
and the valley bend chokes on its flowing torrent.

The clouds are silk, and the pools among the winding dunes are chain mail;
And the clouds are silken cloth, and the pools of the winding sands are chain mail;
the meadow is embroidery, and the hilltop blossoms are fine silk.
and the meadow is brocade, and the hills' blossoms are fine silk.

The meadow is adorned by fresh, luxuriant green grass,
And the meadow is adorned by fresh green grass,
and the grass is brightened by blossoms of purest white.
and the grass is brightened by blossoms of purest white.
