مَرَّhe passed بِناby us يَستَميلُهُsways him السُكرُintoxication
مَرَّ بِنا يَستَميلُهُ السُكرُ
وَكَيفَand how يَصحوhe sobers up وَريقُهُwhile his saliva خَمرُwine
وَكَيفَ يَصحو وَريقُهُ خَمرُ
He passed by us, drunkenness making him sway;
He passed by us, swayed by intoxication.
and how could he sober, when his saliva is wine?
And how can he sober up when his saliva is wine?
قَبَّلتُI kissed فيهِin him عَلىwith مُراقَبَةٍwatchfulness
قَبَّلتُ فيهِ عَلى مُراقَبَةٍ
يَنبوعَa spring خَمرٍwine حَصباؤُهُits pebbles دُرُّpearls
يَنبوعَ خَمرٍ حَصباؤُهُ دُرُّ
In him I kissed, though watched,
I kissed in him, keeping watch,
a spring of wine whose pebbles are pearls.
A spring of wine whose pebbles are pearls.
