تَباشَرَتِrejoiced الدُنياthe world بِجَدواكَin your bounty وَاِكتَفَتand was content
فَلَمso did not تَتَباشَرrejoice بِالغُيوثِat the rains الصَوائِبِpouring down
The world rejoiced in your bounty and was content,
The world busied itself with your achievements and was content,
So it did not rejoice at the pouring rains.
Yet it did not busy itself with sending relief during disasters.

Through you, Time smiled, revealing one who adorns it,
Fate smiled at you with pleasure,
And a watchful eye upon it amid successive calamities.
And watched over you during the changing of misfortunes.
بَصيرٌfar-seeing لَهُhe has دونَbefore العَواقِبِthe outcomes فِكرَةًa thought

Far-seeing, his thought anticipates outcomes,
It had insight, beyond consequences, an idea
Revealing a judgment that reaches beyond those outcomes.
That reveals an opinion behind consequences.
لِيَشكُركَmay it thank you مَجدٌglory لاnot تَزالُyou cease تَحوطُهُyou guard it
وَتَحميهِand protect it بِالنَصلَينِwith the two blades عَزمٍresolve وَقاضِبِand a keen sword
Let glory thank you—you never cease to guard it,
So glory may thank you, protected by you forever,
And protect it with the two blades: resolve and a keen sword.
And shielded by determination and a judging sword.
كَأَنّيas though I إِذاwhen أَمسَكتُI grasped مِنكَfrom you بِعُروَةَby a handhold
أَخَذتُI took hold بِأَهدابِof the fringes الغُيومِof the clouds السَواكِبِrain-pouring
When I grasp a handhold in you, it is as though
It is as if when I take hold of your hand,
I have grasped the fringes of the rain-pouring clouds.
I grasp the forelocks of pouring clouds.
