    Water and air donned clarity,

And the garden clothed itself in delight and splendor.

As though the pools had become gardens,

And as though the gardens had turned into pools.

And as though the air had become pure wine,

And as though pure wine had become air.

And you imagine the sky by night to be earth,

And see the earth by day as sky.

The rains mantled it in blossoms and yellow blooms,

On the day it kept carousing with the rains.

So you see it between rain and blossom,

Equally given to smiling and weeping.

And the trees keep taking beauty

As a shirt, or loveliness as a mantle.

They donned earrings when they bore fruit,

And clothed themselves in striped silk when they leafed.

And you see the cypresses, like pulpits, standing resplendent,

And you see the birds above them as preachers.
