وَكُؤوسٍand cups إِذاwhen دَجاgrew dark اللَيلُthe night دارَتwent round
وَكُؤوسٍ إِذا دَجا اللَيلُ دارَت
تَحتَbeneath سَقفٍa ceiling مُرَصَّعٍstudded بِاللُجَينِwith silver
تَحتَ سَقفٍ مُرَصَّعٍ بِاللُجَينِ
And goblets, when night grew dark, passed around
And cups went round when the night grew dark,
beneath a ceiling inlaid with silver;
Beneath a ceiling studded with silver.
وَكَأَنَّand as though الهِلالَthe crescent مِرآةُa mirror تِبرٍuncoined gold
وَكَأَنَّ الهِلالَ مِرآةُ تِبرٍ
يَنجَليreveals itself كُلَّeach لَيلَةٍnight إِصبَعَينِtwo fingerbreadths
يَنجَلي كُلَّ لَيلَةٍ إِصبَعَينِ
and the crescent seemed a mirror of pure gold,
And as though the crescent were a mirror of gold,
growing clear by two finger-widths each night.
Revealing itself each night by two fingerbreadths.
