يا حُسنَهُ مِن مُطرِفٍ مُعلَمِ
And a yellow one whose edges turn red—
And a yellow one whose edges redden,
how lovely it is, a bordered, patterned robe!
How lovely it is—a striped, bordered cloak!

وَهُوَ مُهانٌ لَيسَ بِالمَكرُمِ
A man sets it at the head of his house,
A man has given it pride of place in his house,
though it is abased, not honored.
Yet it is abased, not honored.

وَهُوَ سَليمُ الدينِ لَم يَأثَمِ
And a man may stand upon its breast,
And a man may mount its breast,
his faith unblemished, having committed no sin.
While his faith is sound and he has not sinned.

Yet for all the lowliness it has borne,
Yet, for all its lowliness,
it bears the name of the greatest king.
It was given the name of the greatest king.
