عَصيتُ الناسَ في عَودٍ وَبِدءٍ

عَصيتُ الناسَ في عَودٍ وَبِدءٍ

وَعِصياني لَهُم في زَيِّ طاعَه

وَعِصياني لَهُم في زَيِّ طاعَه

I have defied people, time and again,

I disobeyed people both early and late

And my defiance of them wears obedience’s guise.

And my disobedience to them was in the guise of obedience

أَداريهُم مَخافَةَ أَن تَراني

أَداريهُم مَخافَةَ أَن تَراني

وَعِرضي عُرضَةً لِذَوي الزَماعَه

وَعِرضي عُرضَةً لِذَوي الزَماعَه

I humor them, for fear that you might see me

I deceived them, fearing they might see me

With my honor a target for the base.

And I made myself vulnerable to the zealots
