بديعٌ والذي خَلَقَه
Lovely in his coquettish grace and dark eye,
Lovely in coy charm and eye,
exquisite—by Him who created him!
Exquisite, by the One who created him.

He has two temple-locks of jet,
He has two sidelocks of jet,
upon his cheeks, like a ring.
Upon his cheeks, like a ring.

يُقَطَّعُ قلبَ من عشقه
And a beauty mark above his cheek
And a mole upon his cheek
cuts my heart to pieces for love of it.
Tears apart the heart of whoever loves him.

فأترك لحظَهُ شفقه
I gaze at it and make my heart bleed,
I glance at him and make him bleed,
then, out of pity, I cease to gaze.
So I stop looking at him out of pity.
