مازِحٌ صديقتَكَ ما أحَبَّ مُزاحا

مازِحٌ صديقتَكَ ما أحَبَّ مُزاحا

وتَوَقَّ منه في المزاح جماحا

وتَوَقَّ منه في المزاح جماحا

Jest with your friend as long as they enjoy jesting;

A jester, do not jest with your companion, I do not love jesting,

and beware of their recklessness in jest.

And refrain from jesting, do not go too far in jest,

فلرُبَّما مَزَحَ الصديقُ بمِزحَةٍ

فلرُبَّما مَزَحَ الصديقُ بمِزحَةٍ

كانت لبابِ عداوةٍ مفتاحا

كانت لبابِ عداوةٍ مفتاحا

For a friend may make a joke

For perhaps a friend may jest with a jest,

that becomes a key to the door of enmity.

That would be a key to the door of enmity.
