فإنfor if تسأليyou ask (feminine) فيamong الناسthe people عنّاabout us فإنناthen indeed we are
حُلِيُّornaments العُلىglory والأرضِand of the earth ذاتpossessing المناكبِshoulders (expanses)
For if you ask among the people about us, we are indeed
If you ask the people about us, we are
The ornaments of glory and of the broad-shouldered earth.
The adornment of highness and the earth with its hills
وليسand there is no بناin us عيبٌfault سوىexcept أنَّthat جودناour generosity
أضرَّcaused harm بناto us والباسَand valor منfrom كلِّevery جانبِside
And we have no fault, save that our generosity
And we have no fault but that our generosity
And valor have harmed us on every side.
Has harmed us, and affliction from all sides

So death has consumed our lives without doing wrong,
So time destroyed our lives though we were not unjust
And generosity has consumed our wealth without bringing disgrace.
And clouds destroyed our wealth though we were not stingy

Our father is a father who, were he all mankind’s
Our father, had he been
Sole father, would enrich them with noble qualities.
The one father of all people, would have enriched them with merits
