ركبتُ حمارَ الكرا

ركبتُ حمارَ الكرا

لقلَّة مَن يُعتَرى

لقلَّة مَن يُعتَرى

I mounted the donkey of slumber,

I rode a hired donkey,

for lack of anyone to call upon;

for there are few to turn to;

وإنَّ ذوي المكرما

وإنَّ ذوي المكرما

تِ قد أصبحوا في الثرى

تِ قد أصبحوا في الثرى

and indeed, people of noble deeds

and indeed those of noble deeds

have now come to lie beneath the dust.

have already come to lie in the earth.
