By my life, though in the land of my exile I have sold
By my life! If in the land of my exile,
My clothes because sustenance grew scarce for me,
I sold my clothes when sustenance grew scarce,
فماso … not أناI إلاbut السيفthe sword أخلَقbecame worn out جَفنُهُits scabbard

I am but a sword whose scabbard has worn out:
Yet am I none but the sword: when drawn,
Its adornment comes from itself, though it bears no ornaments.
My blade itself suffices as adornment, though bare.
