غَيَّرهُ الكونُ والفسادُ

ولاح في وجهه السوادُ

Becoming and decay have changed him,

The universe and corruption changed him,

And blackness has appeared upon his face.

And darkness shone on his face,

كأنَّه دمة أمحَّت

كأنَّه دمة أمحَّت

فكلُّ آثارها رمادُ

فكلُّ آثارها رمادُ

As though he were an effaced ruin,

As if he were a blot of blood erased -

So all its traces are ashes.

All trace of it turned to ashes.
