غَيَّرهُ الكونُ والفسادُ

غَيَّرهُ الكونُ والفسادُ

ولاح في وجهه السوادُ

ولاح في وجهه السوادُ

Generation and corruption have changed him,

Generation and decay have changed him,

and blackness has appeared upon his face,

And blackness has appeared on his face.

كأنَّه دمة أمحَّت

كأنَّه دمة أمحَّت

فكلُّ آثارها رمادُ

فكلُّ آثارها رمادُ

as though he were an old campsite struck barren,

As though he were an obliterated campsite,

so that every trace of it is ash.

So all its traces are ashes.
